Vinicius Jr's one BILLION euros release clause
Real Madrid are set to offer Vinicius Junior a new six-year contract armed with a €1 billion release clause.
And the new contract will put the young Brazilian amongst the top earners at the Bernabeu.
Vinicius Jr turned 21 last summer and has become a key player for Los Blancos this season.
Vinicius Jr's Madrid form in numbers
He has started 14 of Madrid's 16 games in 2021/22, scoring nine times and providing seven assists.
This has already surpassed his output from last season with only a third of the season gone.
Last season, Vinicius Jr played 40 times for Los Blancos, scoring only six times and providing seven assists.
The upturn in form has prompted the Madrid hierarchy to act to secure their prestigious talent and they will table his new contract at the end of the season.
Vinicius Jr's new deal
It is said his new salary will be in the region of €8m with the contract due to expire in 2028.
Only players such as Luka Modric, Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale will earn more.
Madrid spent €45m to sign Vinicius Jr from Flamengo when he was just 16 with hopes he would become the next big superstar in European football.
And it seems he is beginning to fulfil that potential with some top performances this year.
His form has helped Madrid to second in the Spanish league, one point behind leaders Real Sociedad with a game in hand.
They also top their Champions League group with Vinicius Jr notching two goals and four assists in the competition.
What has Vinicius Jr said?
In a recent interview with TNT Brazil, the South American said he was keen to sign his new contract with Madrid.
"Of course I want to renew," he said.
"I want to stay here for a long time, but I am very calm with all that, all at the right time.
"The contract I have is still the one from when I was 16, it doesn't matter when I'm going to renew, how much I'm going to earn, what matters is the satisfaction of being at the best team in the world."
The move to put a €1b release clause on the Vinicius Jr contract follows a similar deal by Barcelona for stars like Ansu Fati and Pedri.
