Laporta hints €310m Haaland transfer would ruin Barcelona

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has appeared to suggest that signing Erling Haaland would put the club’s financial future at risk.
The last week has been dominated by reports in the Catalan press that Haaland has agreed to sign for Barca this summer.

Sport reported on Tuesday that Haaland met with Xavi in Munich last week and was impressed by the project that the former midfielder is building there.
Later in the week, Xavi added further fuel to this report by proclaiming that “no one says no to Barcelona”.
Haaland is reported to believe that Barcelona are building a great young team. He also is confident that Xavi will help improve him as a player.

However, on Sunday, Laporta appeared to hint that a deal for Haaland may put Barcelona in financial peril.
What did Laporta say about Haaland?
“Even if we had the best financial situation in the world, we wouldn't do some deals for the sake of the club”, he told reporters.
“We won’t complete any deal that puts the club at any further risk.”
It has been reported by Sport that the total cost of the operation will be an incredible €310 million.

The Catalans would pay Borussia Dortmund the €75m release clause in Haaland’s contract, as well as €40m in commissions to the player’s agent Mino Raiola and father Alf-Inge Haaland.
In England this week there have instead been reports that Haaland has agreed to join Manchester City.
Haaland is set to leave Dortmund at the end of the season when his €75m release clause is activated.
Real Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona are considered the three favourites to sign him.
