Blow to Chelsea as Lewandowski agrees to join Barcelona
Robert Lewandowski has agreed a three-year contract to join Barcelona this summer, according to Sport1.
Lewandowski’s future at Bayern is very much in doubt as his contract at the club expires in 2023, with talks over a new deal not making any progress.
According to multiple reports in recent days, Lewandowski has told Bayern chiefs that he wants to leave the club this summer and he will not pen a new deal.
Bayern are desperate to keep him and club president Herbert Heiner said on Friday: "Robert Lewandowski has a contract with Bayern until June 2023 - and he will fulfill it.”
Sport1’s Kerry Hau updates on Saturday that Lewandowski has agreed a three-year deal with Barcelona – and it is now just about convincing Bayern to let him go.
WHO ARE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD?
This news comes as a blow to Chelsea, who have entered the race for Lewandowski as they plan to sign a top striker this summer.
Chelsea splashed out €115 million on Romelu Lukaku from Inter last summer but he has proven to be a big flop and he wants to leave at the end of the season.
Barcelona are considered strong favourites to sign Lewandowski now – and Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with Wolfsburg could be his final game for Bayern Munich.
Lewandowski has enjoyed another brilliant season for Bayern, scoring 49 goals in 44 games in all competitions.
Since joining Bayern in 2014 he has 343 goals in 373 games.
