The 22-year-old has penned a five-year deal at the club after passing a medical and will wear the number 27 shirt.

Nunez expressed his delight at joining Liverpool and said he was impressed at the set-up and trophies on display at the training ground.

Nunez said: “You can imagine yourself winning more trophies and then later on when you come here again and see the trophies on display, you can say, ‘Look, I was a part of that, I was there at that time, winning trophies.’

“That’s one of the reasons why I came here to Liverpool – to win trophies and titles. I want to win a lot of trophies at Liverpool.”

Benfica will be paid an initial fee of €75m with a further €25m in bonuses described by sources as 'easy.'

How will Nunez end up costing €100m?

The two clubs agreed for a €75m fee up front after meeting in the middle from Liverpool's first offer of €65m and Benfica's asking price of €85m.

The first bonus of the remaining €25m is worth €5m and will be be paid if Nunez plays ten games before the end of the year for his new side.

Benfica will then receive a further two €10m sums when Nunez plays 25 games and then a further 25 across his entire contract.

It means that should Nunez play 60 games in his Liverpool career, Benfica will net the complete €100m fee.

The 'bonuses' will be considered more like staggered payments as the conditions are almost certain to be met, barring disastrous injuries or Liverpool choosing to sell Nunez before he plays all the games.

Liverpool are said to be funding part of the deal with the income from the projected sale of Sadio Mane, who could join Bayern Munich for a fee of €40m.

Almeria are also due €10m from Benfica after they agreed a sell-on clause when Nunez left them in 2020 for €24m - a club record transfer for the Portuguese side.
