'Bruno Guimaraes has the level to play for Barcelona, Real Madrid and Mars'
Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has the quality to play for the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid or... Mars, according to Brazilian coach Tiago Nunes.
Bruno was signed by Newcastle during the January transfer window for a fee of around €42 million from French side Lyon, who had signed him in tow years earlier from Athletico Paranaense for around half that price.
The 24-year-old has impressed in the Premier League, with his FootballTransfers valuation jumping from €20m when Newcastle signed him to a high of €42m this month.
In an interview with Sport, Tiago Nunes was asked which player has impressed him most during his coaching career.
“Bruno Guimarees, without any doubt. He is a very complete midfielder who seems to have four eyes. He plays with a camera over his head, he has a 360-degree view,” the midfielder’s coach at Athletico Paranaense explained.
“When I had him, I remember Benfica asked me if I had an opinion as to what level he could reach. I told them no. I said that he had the level to play for Barcelona, Real Madrid and even Mars if he wanted to.
“But they didn’t sign him. He went to France first and then to England.”
