Rashford reveals Man Utd's emergency goalkeeper secret
Marcus Rashford has revealed that he used to play as a goalkeeper and that he would be willing to pitch in if David De Gea got injured.
The Manchester United attacker laid bare his youth career, surprisingly stating that his first position was in goal.
He told Sky Sports: “I used to be a goalkeeper, but the year Man United scouted me I played outfield because my team was always winning and I was bored.”
The England international later said that he has even had talks with the Red Devils' number one De Gea over what would happen if the Spaniard got injured.
The striker said: “Yeah we’ve had some conversations about who would get in goal if he gets injured. A couple of years ago everyone said in the team the biggest person should go but I didn’t have it no way. I would trust myself more."
Rashford is Man Utd’s in-form player at the moment, having netted 24 goals in all competitions so far - two more than his career-best of 22.
Rashford on Ten Hag
And the forward has attributed his rise to Erik ten Hag’s determination.
Rashford was full of praise for the Dutchman, ahead of the club’s Carabao Cup clash at Wembley on Sunday. A win would mark their first trophy in six years.
The forward named Ten Hag’s best attribute ahead of the game. “I’d say his determination,” he said in an interview with Stadium Astro. “He doesn’t rest on anything.
“So if we’re 3-0 up in a game, or 2-0 up, if we concede a goal then you know that he’s not going to be happy about it.”
“If we’re winning 1-0 then it’s massively important and if we’re winning 4-0, in the past it was less important if the other team scored a goal, whereas now we’re constantly striving to be the best that we can be, and at our best, we don’t concede goals.”
