At Anfield, the Red Devils were torn apart, with six goals from the Reds coming in the second half.

Coming not too long after their Carabao Cup win at Wembley, they were humbled by Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah each got a brace, before Roberto Firmino, set to leave the club in the summer, sealed the thrashing with the final goal of the game.

Ten Hag calls Man Utd 'unprofessional'

After the game, a level-headed Ten Hag spoke about the display in which his men seemingly downed tools to their arch-rivals.

He told Sky Sports: "I am surprised because I have seen the last weeks and months this team is resilient and has a winning attitude. Second half we didn't have a winning attitude at all. We didn't stick to the plan and we didn't do our jobs.

“You can lose a game but not in this way. Also, the second half is... unprofessional that is not Manchester United It can't happen, we have to talk about it. I saw 11 individuals losing their heads. This was not Manchester United”.

Man United remain in third place in the Premier League after the loss. The club have accrued 49 points so far this season, and Tottenham, in fourth are four points behind them, having played one game more.

The Champions League is still on the horizon for the Red Devils, but those faint whispers of a title challenge have all but faded away.

Man Utd have a tie against Real Betis to contend with next before they host Southampton at Old Trafford. The takeover of the club continues to rumble on in the background.
