The Scotland international has been in a rich form of late, even netting in Man Utd’s 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday.

But word is that the midfielder is unsettled at Old Trafford and is looking for a way out of the side.

Under Erik ten Hag, the Scot has dropped down the pecking order, while The Telegraph reported that Eddie Howe is a huge admirer of MctTominay and sees him as one of the best suited to come in and play the No.6 role.

The Daily Star report that, despite Ten Hag playing McTominay in United’s last four games, they have both had talks about his future.

During the last international break, he incredibly scored four times in just two games in the Euro Qualifiers - with goals coming against Cyprus and Spain.

Though McTominay has found game-time recently, Christian Eriksen is now fit again after three months out, and Casemiro will be back from his suspension.

The lack of game-time may see McTominay leave - but the price tag may put suitors off making a move.

A Toon move

Indeed, it is thought that Newcastle have the strongest interest. They are looking to the market for Premier League-proven players who they can improve.

Their director of football, Dan Ashworth, is already busy at work, finding suitable players to bring to St James’ Park. He spearheaded the approach and eventual transfer of scouts from Manchester City - Paul Midgley and Paul McLaren - and is on the hunt for more in Europe.

But another sticking point could be Man Utd’s reluctance to sell to a club who are likely to be chasing a Champions League spot next season.

McTominay still has two years left on his United contract - and an option for an additional 12 months.
