Chelsea SECOND as Premier League agent spending hits dizzying high

Chelsea may have smashed all kinds of transfer records in the 2022/23 season, but they place only second in the Premier League table when it comes to payments to intermediaries and agents.

According to a report from The Times, the Blues have spent little over £43 million in the last two transfer windows in terms of agents and intermediary fees.

This lags behind Manchester City, who have splashed more than £51.5m on such payments, despite completing only six significant first-team signings.

In total, the 20 Premier League clubs have spent a little more than £318m on agent fees in the last two transfer windows.

Which Premier League club spends most on agents?

Man City come out comfortably on top in this study, with their figure of £51.5m representing an expenditure of more than twice every other Premier League club with the exception of Chelsea (£43.1) and Liverpool (£33.7m).

Although this total is not broken down in any manner, it is expected that the deal to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund last summer played a major part in this. Although the Norway international was recruited for just £54m (€60m), it was reported when the deal was being done that the striker’s agent Rafaela Pimenta and father, Alfie Haaland, were both in line for sizeable cuts. This report appears to back that up.

Manchester United (£24.7m) and Arsenal (£16.7m) are both well behind these leading three clubs, with Tottenham rounding out the ‘Big 6’ on £16.1m.

Nottingham Forest pay the least in agent fees, which is somewhat surprising given the vast number of new signings that the club from the City Ground made during the summer transfer window. Indeed, they are the only team in the Premier League that has not spend at least £5m on agent fees in the 2022/23 season.
