Madrid already have Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde in midfield, and they are going to sign Bellingham.

So they could have allowed 37-year-old Modric to leave on a free transfer, as his contract expires in the summer, but he will be staying at Santiago Bernabeu, according to Sky Germany.

The Ballon d'Or winner has agreed to a one-year extension on the same terms as his current deal.

Modric was reportedly offered incredible money to join former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia but he has turned it down.

He is no longer in his prime, and played poorly in Wednesday's Champions League semi-final defeat to Manchester City, but he does still have plenty to offer Carlo Ancelotti's side.

Bellingham to Real Madrid

Real Madrid are close to completing a deal to sign Bellingham, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

Negotiations are at an advanced stage, according to the Italian journalist, with personal terms almost agreed.

A new meeting has now been scheduled to complete the transfer, Romano adds.

Marca adds that Real Madrid will pay up to €120 million for the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

Madrid had emerged as the favourites to sign Bellingham in recent weeks, according to multiple sources, moving ahead of Liverpool, Manchester United and other interested parties.
