Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that agent Manuel Sierra has denied that the Reds made any serious approach for the player last summer, while he does not anticipate that to change ahead of the window opening again in January.

Jacobs posted a tweet detailing his interaction with Sierra. He wrote: “Piero Hincapie’s agent Manuel Sierra tells me #LFC did NOT make a serious approach for the Leverkusen defender last summer and he doesn’t expect that to change in January. Previous comments have been lost in translation.”

Indeed, previous reports have suggested that Sierra said on record that Liverpool were still in talks with the player’s side over a possible move - but that’s not the case and there is little reason to believe that the situation will change in the coming months.

Bayer head coach Xabi Alonso has previously expressed his admiration for Hincapie’s ability and hopes that he has a long future with the Bundesliga club.

Liverpool's summer business

Liverpool prioritised the midfielder in their summer rebuild and opted not to buy any defenders, despite calls to do so from sections of the fanbase.

The Reds have enjoyed a superb start to life this season, only marred by their controversial loss to Tottenham last weekend, which ended 2-1 to the north London side despite Luiz Diaz’s goal being chalked offside when he was in fact before the last man.
