Fabrizio Romano has bad transfer news for Man Utd fans
Fabrizio Romano has some potentially bad news for Manchester United fans as there is a possibility the club will sign no players during the January transfer window.
It has been widely reported in recent weeks that United will look to sign three or four players during January, with a defender, midfielder (or two) and a striker on manager Erik ten Hag’s wishlist.
The reason for this is due to Man Utd’s dreadful first half of the season.
The Red Devils have had their worst start to a campaign in over 30 years, struggling in the league and having been eliminated from the League Cup and Champions League.
However, Romano has warned that United may sign no one in January.
What did Fabrizio Romano say about Man Utd transfers?
“There have been reports that Ten Hag wants three signings – a centre-back, midfielder, and a striker,” Romano said.
“My information on a defender has been there for some time, it’s nothing new. Midfield is not something guaranteed yet, and the same for the striker, which will largely depend on whether or not Anthony Martial leaves.”
Martial’s contract expires at Old Trafford at the end of the season, so the Frenchman must decide whether to move in January for a cut price or secure a free transfer and better signing-on fee in June.
United have been linked with a host of attackers to replace Martial if he does leave, including Serhou Guirassy, Timo Werner, Dusan Vlahovic and Ivan Toney.
Current first-choice striker Rasmus Hojlund has been a huge disappointment in the Premier League since joining for €85 million last summer from Atalanta.
Hojlund has failed to score a single Premier League goal, while the other United attackers have also disappointment. Marcus Rashford has failed to hit the heights of last season, Antony has no goal contributions and Jadon Sancho has been frozen out of the squad and is available for transfer in January.
