The leader of the Labour Party in the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, has given his view on Arsenal’s move for Ivan Toney this month.

Starner is a big fan of Arsenal and was appearing on Talksport where he talked about his favourite side.

The Gunners are in the market for a striker and have been looking at a number of top options.

These include Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus, Victor Osimhen of Napoli and Brentford striker Toney.

A move in January appears difficult, as acknowledged by Starmer.

What did Keir Starmer say?

“My feeling is it probably won’t happen,” he said.

“But the squad Arteta has got there… that’s the best squad I’ve seen in a long time and I’ve seen a lot of Arsenal football for many years. It’s a great squad.

“It’s about confidence and one or two extra players, especially that striker role.

“Jesus is great but he doesn’t score enough goals. But he wins balls he shouldn’t get anywhere near.”

Previously, Toney has suggested that he may depart the club during the winter window, amid links with Arsenal and Chelsea, and FootballTransfers understand that he would be keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium.

However, sources have informed us that Mikel Arteta’s side have no intention of meeting Brentford’s €116 million (£100m) valuation.

Toney has proven himself as one of the best English strikers around in recent years with 20 Premier League goals in 2022-23.

He has won one cap for the England national team and he is hoping to work his way back into the squad for Euro 2024 next summer.

He returned from a ban for illegal betting on Saturday, scoring in a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.
