Five transfers that could be completed this week
The January transfer window is now open, and clubs from all round Europe are busy negotiating for players they could sign or sell.
Plenty of big deals are in the pipeline, particularly in the Premier League, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle all expected to splash the cash.
In Europe’s other major leagues, there is also set to be lots of activity.
Who, then, will be on the move this week across the world of football? Football Transfers takes a look at the deals which are on the verge of confirmation.
Jadon Sancho: Man Utd to Dortmund
Jadon Sancho is close to leaving Manchester United, with Borussia Dortmund set to complete a sensational deal to recapture the winger.
Talks are at an advanced stage for Dortmund to sign Sancho on loan until the end of the season. They will pay a €3.5m loan fee.
Sancho has been frozen out of the United squad since September after a public spat with manager Erik ten Hag.
He signed for Man Utd from Dortmund in 2021 for €85 million but has endured a disastrous time at Old Trafford.
Marcos Leonardo: Santos to Benfica
Marcos Leonardo is on the verge of joining Benfica after an agreement was reached by the Portuguese club with Santos.
Benfica have agreed to pay a fee of €18 million for the Brazilian attacker. Only formalities are remaining before the transfer becomes official.
Leonardo has been targeted by a host of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Arsenal, Real Madrid and Roma.
Tajon Buchanan: Club Brugge to Inter
Club Brugge star Tajon Buchana will join Inter this week.
Inter have agreed to pay Brugge an initial €7 million plus add-ons for the Canada international.
A medical is set for Thursday after which the transfer will be confirmed.
Buchana will be a replacement for the injured Juan Cuadrado at right wing-back for the Nerazzurri.
Lazar Samardzic: Udinese to Napoli
Napoli are closing in on the signing of Udinese midfielder Lazar Samardzic for a fee expected to be around €25 million.
There are still some details to agree so this isn’t a formality yet, but it is a transfer that is getting closer.
Napoli sold Eljif Elmas to Leipzig for €25m so Samardzic will be the North Macedonian star’s replacement.
Samardzic is one of Serie A’s most exciting young midfielders and has a big future.
Radu Dragusin: Genoa to Tottenham
Tottenham are in talks to sign Radu Dragusin from Genoa, despite public denials from the player’s agent.
Genoa’s asking price is around €30m, with Tottenham still a way short of reaching that figure.
Nevertheless, this is a transfer Spurs want to complete as they are decimated at centre back.
Dragusin, who will turn 22 next month, has emerged as one of the most promising centre backs in Serie A this season.
