Klopp recently announced that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the current season after eight-and-a-half years in charge, and the hunt for his successor is now on.

The Reds have thus begun the search to replace Klopp when the season finishes.

Xabi Alonso is the current favourite with the bookmakers to become the next permanent manager of Liverpool.

The Spaniard is one of the most exciting young managers in world football and he spent five years at Anfield as a player, winning the Champions League with the club in 2005.

He is currently top of the Bundesliga as manager of Bayer Leverkusen.

But former Chelsea defender Gallas believes that Gerrard deserves the job over Alonso.

What did Gallas say?

“Steven Gerrard should replace Jurgen Klopp,” Gallas told Gensing Casino.

“He was the manager at Rangers and Aston Villa so why can’t he manage Liverpool? It’s not like he’s just started his managerial career, he has experience under his belt already. They have to give him that job.

“Liverpool fans respect Xabi Alonso, he’s had a great career and is having good results with Leverkusen but Steven Gerrard is a legend at Liverpool.”

Gerrard is the current manager of Saudi Arabian team Al-Ettifaq but would jump at the chance to return to Liverpool as manager.

He previously managed Rangers and Aston Villa.
