Real Madrid are set to announce a contract extension for Toni Kroos as soon as next week.

The 34-year-old midfielder’s current deal is due to expire at the end of this season and his future had been up in the air.

There had been no breakthrough in talks about a new contract and it was even suggested that the Germany international would retire after the European Championship on home soil this summer.

However, the news was broken by Fabrizio Romano on his X, formerly Twitter, account on Wednesday that Madrid and Kroos had come to an arrangement to extend his stay until 2025.

Kroos has been at the Santiago Bernabeu since 2014, signing for Los Blancos after winning the World Cup.

He has been a winner of four Champions League during his time in the Spanish capital and is ranked among the best players in the club’s long and illustrious history.

Even with the emergence of Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde, the veteran Kroos has maintained his status as an indispensable player in the heart of Real’s midfield this season.

Kroos’ contract extension also ties in with new deals for Lucas Vazquez and Nacho Fernandez.

Real Madrid to announce renewals for Lucas and Nacho

The homegrown pair were also due to leave the club this summer but Madrid will extend both their stays by one year according to AS.

Lucas, 32, has provided vital cover for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season as they struggle with injuries across the backline, filling in at right back.

His renewal means Real could look to press on with their plan to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool in 2025 with Madrid now well stocked at right back for another season at least.

Nacho, the 34-year-old club captain, has featured more this season than he would have expected given the long-term absences of central defensive pair Eder Militao and David Alaba.

He has impressed in the heart of defence as Real close in on another LaLiga title and prepare to face Manchester City in the last eight of the Champions League.

It is expected that Madrid will use the gap in league matches, owing to the Copa del Rey final taking place next weekend, to announce the renewals.
