Brentford have reduced their asking price for star man Ivan Toney massively this summer to under €50 million.

That is according to respected Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips, who reports that the London club have slashed their price tag from £100 million to £50m (€46.5m).

For much of this year, Arsenal and Chelsea have been the two teams out in front for Toney’s signature.

However, FootballTransfers recently reported that West Ham and Tottenham are currently the frontrunners in the race to secure Toney.

All interested parties have been made aware that Toney is now available for half of his original asking price.

Brentford initially had slapped a £100m asking price on Toney but given his contract expires in 2025 and the unwillingness of anyone to pay even close to that amount, the price target has plummeted in recent months.

Toney’s form has not helped either as he has not scored for Brentford since February, having returned from a long betting ban.

Newcastle have also been linked with Toney, with the Magpies needing a centre forward this summer - just like Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham.

Toney was one of the hottest properties in the January transfer window, with Arsenal and Chelsea both keen to buy him.

The 28-year-old ended up staying at Brentford, but Brentford manager Thomas Frank has since admitted that it is virtually certain that Toney will be sold at the end of the campaign.

Ivan Toney impressive career

Toney has proven himself as one of the best English strikers around in recent years with 20 Premier League goals in 2022-23.

He missed the first half of this campaign due to a betting ban but returned to playing in January.

He has since scored four goals but none since February.

He has won one cap for the England national team and he is hoping to go to Euro 2024 this summer.

Toney has an impressive 164 goals in 407 games during his career, appearing for the likes of Northampton Town, Newcastle, Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe, Wigan and Peterborough.

He joined Brentford in 2020 and has since scored 72 goals in 140 games.
