The five La Liga stars who could transfer this summer
With the transfer window approaching its final few weeks, there are still many stars who could leave La Liga this summer, particularly given the tight financial constraints in place from the league.
Teams in Spain spent less than €500 million on players last summer – the lowest figure in a decade and significantly less than the other major European leagues, such are the restrictions in place with La Liga’s economic rules.
Even teams such as Real Madrid and Barcelona are not immune to the cuts and FootballTransfers takes a look at five stars from La Liga who could be sold this summer.

Frenkie de Jong (Barcelona)
Much has been made of Barcelona’s financial situation in the past few years and their troubles have continued this summer, with every first team player available for the right price.
However, Barca have been unable to shift their high earners this summer and De Jong remains one of the only players who could command a significant fee and providing relief to the Catalan's wage bill.
But despite Manchester United continuing to have a long-term interest in the midfielder, De Jong's reluctance to leave, combined with his injury status, means a deal may not be possible before the end of the window.
Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid)
The future of Joao Felix is still in the air this summer, with Barcelona unlikely to turn his loan into a permanent move and Atletico Madrid still not seeing a future with the Portuguese forward.
Felix scored seven goals in 18 La Liga starts for Barca but has failed to convince teams that he is worth anywhere near the €80m Atletico were holding out for last summer.
However, Chelsea have been linked with a move for the forward in the hopes that it will accelerate Conor Gallagher's transfer to Atletico, meaning Felix could finally end his nightmare in Madrid and make the switch to the Premier League.
Giorgi Mamardashvili (Valencia)
Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is one player who has been extensively scouted by teams such as Newcastle and Chelsea, particularly after having a strong performance at Euro 2024.
The Georgian shotstopper has established himself as one of the best keepers in Europe during his time in Spain and Valencia are believed to be open to his sale for around €30m due to their financial predicament, which could appeal to teams in need of a new number one.
Newcastle had made an offer for Mamardashvili at the start of the summer but Liverpool appear to be in pole position to sign the 23-year-old, with a belief that they could then loan him out this season if they meet Valencia's asking price.
Mikel Merino (Real Sociedad)
Having seen Martin Zubimendi reject a move to Liverpool, Real Sociedad will be hoping that Mikel Merino follows in his footsteps after being the subject of an approach by Arsenal.
The Gunners are hoping to sign Merino this summer for a cut-price deal due to the 28-year-old having 12 months remaining on his contract, with Sociedad holding out for around €30m.
Merino appears to be keen on the move to Arsenal and it is likely that the Spanish international will leave La Liga for England before the end of the month.
Nico Williams (Athletic Bilbao)
Nico Williams was a standout performer for Spain at Euro 2024, leading to the Athletic Bilbao winger becoming a major target for a host of Europe's top sides.
The 21-year-old has a release clause in his contract worth €60m but, while the likes of Barcelona and Arsenal were interested in triggering it, Williams appears to have committed his future to Bilbao for the time being.
Williams was handed the number ten shirt by Athletic Bilbao and has spoken of his desire to remain at the club this summer but the appealing buyout in his contract means that his future will be up for debate until the window closes.
