Manchester United's decision to make Gareth Southgate their number one candidate to take over as head coach it a factor contributing to the delays in providing clarity over who will be in the dugout next season.

Despite the season concluding last month, there has been no decision regarding Erik ten Hag's future.

New owners Ineos have been conducting a review of the club, where it was thought a decision would be made, but no one is any none the wiser over the situation regarding the managerial job, reports the Independent.

It’s thought that Ten Hag himself is now pushing for clarity on his future, and could even look to move on via mutual consent.

The club have dwindled on a decision, with the club’s last game coming in the FA Cup final where they beat Manchester City 2-1.

It marked the second piece of silverware under Ten Hag - but the 2023/24 season was Man Utd’s worst-ever Premier League finish. The club also fell out of the Champions League in the group stage.

Reports have suggested that Ineos will announce whether or not they will keep Ten Hag last week - but now it appears as though the process could drag on weeks.

Southgate is currently presiding over England ahead of the European Championship and as such, it has delayed matters.

It’s thought Sir Dave Brailsford is a huge supporter of the Three Lions boss and there is the belief that he anspearhead a transformation at the club, similar to how he did with England.

The club have also been linked to former Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi as well as Thomas Tuchel, who recently left Bayern Munich.

Red Devils supporters are split on whether Ten Hag should be axed or not.
