Meanwhile, the senior side won the UEFA Conference League after impressive victories over the likes of Aston Villa and Fiorentina in the final, meaning the Greek outfit have become the first team to win two UEFA competitions in same season.

It was all masterminded by owner Evangelos Marinakis, also owner of Nottingham Forest, who hired José Luis Mendilibar in February. He has also invested heavily in the team and youth set up over the past decade.

“The people of Olympiacos have been singing about a crazy dream for 99 years," said the 56-year-old. "Today is not a crazy dream, it is reality, here in Greece.

“These are moments of emotion and great joy. We continue not only to dream, but also to soar high. We’re moving on. Here we go, the Europa League could be next.”

“If you focus and want it bad enough, you will achieve it. We would never lose today, especially in Greece.”
