There have been widespread reports in recent days that Antony could leave United to join Fenerbahce before the Turkish transfer window closes on Friday.

However, Romano says that will not happen.

What did Romano say?

“In terms of wingers moving out, Antony has been linked with Fenerbahce but that deal is not happening,” Romano said.

“After that, I can’t predict the future, it’s only September, so let’s see how the season goes and then next summer Antony and Man United will decide. There’s no decision made now, he’s staying and he’ll have a chance.”

“It’s hard to pin down one reason things have gone wrong for Antony since his move to Old Trafford. My view is that he’s struggled for different reasons – firstly, there was the big price putting pressure on him, then personal issues away from the pitch, while in general these have also been two difficult seasons for Man United for almost everyone involved, not only for Antony.”

Antony at Man Utd

Antony joined Man Utd from Ajax in the summer of 2022 for €100 million and big things were expected of Erik ten Hag’s former pupil.

However, Antony has been an unmitigated disaster at Old Trafford. He bagged just four Premier League goals in his inaugural season and looked well short of the physical, mental and even technical levels required to play for such a big team.

Last season, Antony was even worse with just one Premier League goal and one assist.

Despite this, Ten Hag often persisted with Antony in the starting XI but things have gone from bad to worse for the Brazilian.

Antony has not started a game this season, playing just one minute of football.
