Arsenal and Chelsea have been handed a ray of hope in their quest to sign Victor Osimhen.

The two Premier League giants had been linked to the Napoli forward in the summer transfer window, but ultimately no move materialised.

In fact, the Blues failed to sign Osimhen on Deadline Day after failing to agree terms with the 25-year-old. The Nigeria international is believed to have asked for an amount that would break Chelsea's wage structure and the club were not willing to stretch to that amount.

Osimhen is set to undergo his medical with Galatasaray on Tuesday before joining on loan for the season from Napoli.

Osimhen will join the Turkish team on loan until June 2025. It will be a dry loan with Galatasaray simply covering his salary from September until June at a cost of €10 million.

But there is a clause in his deal, according to reports, offering fresh hope for several clubs.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Osimhen now has a release clause in his Napoli contract, which has seen a reduction from €130million (£109.5m) to €75m (£63.2m). Furthermore, Napoli can also extend the striker’s contract to 2027 should he not be sold next summer.

And there is a January break clause in the season-long loan move to Turkey, but it's only relevant to several clubs.

Turkish outlet A Spor journalist Kagan Dursun reports that the break clause can only be activated by ten clubs, some of which include Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern Munich. It's also thought that Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are on the list.

Osimhen had a largely difficult season on the pitch, while Napoli endured a disastrous defence of the Scudetto they won in the 2022-23 season as they finished 10th in Serie A.

The Nigerian had been a key player in the Scudetto campaign, scoring 26 league goals in 32 games.
