Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he would consider a return to Manchester United ‘every day of the week’ amid pressure on Erik ten Hag.

Solskjaer is still considered a legend at United despite being sacked as manager by the club in 2021, having spent a combined 17 years at Old Trafford in various playing and coaching roles.

The Norwegian stepped in to replace Jose Mourinho mid-season in 2018 and sparked a turnaround in fortunes that led to him being named permanent manager.

However, Solskjaer lasted less than three years at the helm before being sacked with the club in seventh place, and the former striker has been out of work ever since.

Speaking at the Oslo Business Forum this week, Solskjaer was asked about a potential return to United and, while he was reluctant to speak openly while Ten Hag was still in charge, the 51-year-old could not hide his desire to return to his former club one day.

“I would say yes every day of the week,” Solskjaer said of a return to United. “It feels wrong to talk about jobs that other people have, but I would say yes of course.”

Solskjaer open to Norway job

Ten Hag has continued to feel the pressure after a disappointing draw at home to his former club FC Twente in the Europa League, with United also enduring a poor start in the Premier League.

United sit in 11th place with just two wins in their opening five games, although Ten Hag has remained adamant over his future after extending his contract during the summer.

Solskjaer also admitted he would be open to replacing former international teammate Stale Solbakken as Norway boss if the opportunity for talks presented itself.

He said: “I am a proud Norwegian, and of course if the question arises, when Ståle decides to give up, I will happily engage in discussions. I am a proud Norwegian and proud of where I come from.”
