Manchester United raced into a 2-0 lead at half-time in Ruben Amorim’s first home Premier League game but the talk at the break was about Joshua Zirkzee after he broke his barren run in front of goal.

The 23-year-old joined United for €40 million in the summer and scored on his debut against Fulham but he had failed to net in his 17 appearances since.

Despite his struggles, Amorim opted to start Zirkzee up front against Everton and the Dutchman rewarded his faith by tapping in Bruno Fernandes’ cut-back for United’s second goal.

Marcus Rashford had given United the lead from another Fernandes assist and the impressive display gave supporters encouragement over their side’s start under Amorim.

Having drawn against Ipswich in his first game in charge, a win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League in mid-week got Amorim up and running and United carried their momentum into the game versus the Toffees.

The link-up between Fernandes, Rashford and Zirkzee up front caused joy on social media from United fans who could not hold their delight over their core stars finding form.
