Choupo-Moting: PSG wanted me to stay, I wanted to join Bayern
Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has confirmed that PSG tried to extend his contract and stop the Cameroonian striker from leaving the club in the summer.
After two seasons with the Ligue 1 club, Choupo-Moting opted for a return to the Bundesliga this year when Bayern offered the striker a one-year contract.
Although the 31-year old has only featured in six games – and started just two – for Hansi Flick’s side to date, Choupo-Moting still remains adamant that he made the right decision to return to Germany.

In an interview with SportBild, Choupo-Moting said: “PSG wanted to extend with me, I was happy there. But I always kept an eye on Germany and also looked at the top clubs to see if there could be a place for me.
“Then my advisor got in touch with Bayern. After Hasan Salihamidzic contacted me and I spoke to Hansi Flick, it was clear: I want to do that!
“It is a huge honor to play for the largest club in Germany as a Hamburg boy. Munich is a super city. In terms of career, that was a mega important step.”
Although the Hamburg-born talent has never been a prolific goalscorer, Choupo-Moting certainly had his uses at PSG.
Over the course of two seasons in Thomas Tuchel’s side, the marauding forward made 51 appearances and scored nine goals.
Perhaps his most famous and instrumental goal for the Parsian club came in last season’s Champions League quarter-finals against Atalanta, when Choupo-Moting came on as a late sub and scored a late winner to take his side to the semi-finals.
As a back-up option to Robert Lewandowski, the senior striker will undoubtedly be hoping to offer the same kind of precision and attacking threat off the bench as Bayern look to defend the Champions League title they won against Choupo-Moting’s own PSG side in last season’s final in August.
