Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed that the Bundesliga side will not look to send Reinier back to Real Madrid and will instead be patient with the young attacker.

The 18-year-old Brazilian joined Dortmund in the summer on a two-year loan deal after Real Madrid signed him from Flamengo.

Reinier has rarely featured for Lucien Favre’s side this season, with three substitute appearances before an injury and positive COVID result ruled him out of action for the last four league matches.

However, Zorc has dismissed any rumours of the Bundesliga club cutting their losses with the youngster and will instead wait until he is over his illnesses and up to speed with German football.

  • “Basically, we don’t have that idea,” Zorc told the DPA. “We have patience with him. I hope he has it too.

“In such cases we make it a two-year loan. A one-year loan would be borderline.”

“He did not have an easy start with us,” said Zorc, in acknowledgement of the young player’s efforts to adapt to German life.

“[He] came to us after a period of several months in which he did not play. And now the infection has set him back again.”
