Haaland should reject Madrid and City to stay at Dortmund - Hummels
Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has urged team-mate Erling Haaland to stay with BVB beyond next summer and forget about moving elsewhere.
The veteran German centre-back had nothing but praise for the young Norwegian striker who is being courted by Europe's elite clubs such as Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
And Hummels has warned Haaland that the grass is not always greener elsewhere.
Haaland told why he should not move
Hummels, in an interview with Sport Bild, said: "I can fully understand him if he wants to stay! Because it's great in Dortmund because he knows what he's got here. I haven't given up hope that he'll stay for a long time.
"The grass on the other hand is not always greener. You really should be aware of that in football."
Hummels can speak from experience having faced and ventured down a similar road to the one now staring at Haaland.
He left Dortmund for rivals Bayern Munich in 2016 for £31.5million, only to make the switch back again just three years later.
And he insists getting the right surroundings at a club can be key to keeping a player happy.
He said: "It's worth a lot if you have a good environment, feel comfortable with the guys and can also be really successful. You have to appreciate that, that's not the case in every club. So we have a lot to offer Erling."
But Hummels is in no doubt that if Haaland does leave Dortmund in the next 12 months, he will be successful no matter where he goes.
"I really don't want to talk Erling away, but I can't imagine a club where he doesn't score one or the other goal," he added.
Could Haaland stay at Dortmund?
Alongside Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland is the hottest property in world football.
And there will be no shortage of offers in June 2022 when the summer transfer market reopens.
The 21-year-old will have his pick of where he wants to go and the salary he wants to be paid. While there have been tentative reports in Germany that he could stay put, the odds are that he will be on the move.
Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain all have a heavy interest in Haaland, whose time at Borussia Dortmund appears to be running short.
