What does Dortmund's pursuit of Adeyemi mean for Haaland's future?
Borussia Dortmund’s pursuit of Red Bull Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi could prove to be an important deal in the summer transfer window in more ways than one.
The young Germany international is an exceptionally gifted young player and is being pursued by a number of clubs across Europe’s top leagues.
However, many onlookers will be wondering if the German giants are simply chasing the stars of tomorrow with their typical eye for talent or crucially lining up a replacement for Erling Haaland.
The Dortmund striker has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Real Madrid next summer.
So does the imminent arrival of Adeyemi spell the end for Haaland’s spell in the Bundesliga?
Are Dortmund set to sign Adeyemi?
Despite being linked with a number of clubs, Adeyemi is widely expected to make the move to Dortmund in the summer.
After publicly turning down an offer from Barcelona, the player is set to sign for Dortmund once negotiations can be tied up between the Bundesliga side and RB Salzburg due to the fact that Adeyemi has prioritised game time and his development as a player over financial gain at a larger club at this moment in time.
Sport-Bild are reporting that Borussia Dortmund have agreed a five-year deal with Karim Adeyemi and hope to sign him in the summer.
RB Salzburg want €40m but Dortmund aren't willing to pay more than €35m.— Stefan Bienkowski (@SBienkowski) December 14, 2021
According to Sport-Bild, RB Salzburg are holding out for €40 million, while Dortmund aren’t willing to go above or beyond €35 million, but a compromise is likely to be found between now and the end of the season.
What does that mean for Haaland’s future?
So what does the arrival of a new striker mean for Haaland’s future at the club when this season comes to an end?
According to German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, despite now being at an advanced stage with the pursuit of Adeyemi, Dortmund still have high hopes of convincing Haaland to stay at the club next season.
Indeed, rather than joining the club to replace the Norwegian phenomenon, Adeyemi is expected to partner Haaland up front next season as the club make a vital push to break Bayern Munich’s deadlock on the Bundesliga title.
