Bayern Munich may have had a relatively quiet summer transfer window compared to their rivals across Europe but that hasn’t stopped the German giants from hitting the ground running in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

The baton was perfectly passed on from Hansi Flick to Julian Nagelsmann and as a result, Bayern look like comfortable favourites to pick up another league title in May and could now be firm favourites for the European Cup too.

So who among this well-oiled machine has performed the most admirably in the first half of the season and which player can we truly call Bayern’s best player of the season so far?

3. Thomas Muller

He may not be the youngest or most appreciated player in European football, but at 32 years of age Thomas Muller is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down for Bayern Munich this season.

Indeed, in just 26 games across all competitions, Muller has bagged no less than eight goals and 17 assists from his favoured position of No.10 in the Bayern team - no other player across Europe’s top leagues has provided more assists at this point in the season.

Bundesliga fans will be well-versed in what Muller can do on a weekly basis, but his talents were on show for the entire continent to see in the Champions League group stages, when he played a key role in both 3-0 victories over Barcelona, bagging two goals for himself along the way.

2. Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski would have had every right to throw his hands in the air and go in an almighty huff when he didn’t win the Ballon d’Or this year, but in true professional style the Polish striker has instead got back to work and continued doing what he does better than any other player in the world: score goals.

In true Lewandowski style, the Bayern goal scorer has already racked up a truly ridiculous number of goals, with no less than 19 and an assist to boot in just 17 Bundesliga games this season. Add to that nine goals and two assists in six Champions League games and a further two in the German Super Cup and that works out at 33 goal contributions in just 25 games.

1 . Leroy Sane

As we all know, Muller and Lewandowski are nothing if not consistent in their contributions to Bayern each and every season, but a relatively new player in Julian Nagelsmann’s team is what has given the Bavarian giants an extra oomph this season.

Having joined the club last season and struggled with match fitness for the first 12 months, Leroy Sane has really got his mojo back this season and bagged no less than 11 goals and 11 assists in just 28 appearances for Bayern this season.

Lewandowski may still be Bayern’s main talisman and Muller his playmaker-in-chief, but Sane has now added an extra dimension to this team and could prove to be the vital addition that takes them all the way in the Champions League this season.
