Mustafi’s father says his son’s contract will not be terminated by Arsenal
Shkodran Mustafi’s father and agent has denied reports that the player is currently in talks with Arsenal about the termination of his contract.
Injuries and a lack of form have seen the German defender fall down the pecking order at the Emirates over the past 18 months or so, particularly after the acquisitions of Pablo Mari and Gabriel, to players who feature in the same position.
In the 2020/21 season has has been limited to just six starts, none of which have came in the Premier League. Overall, he has played 535 minutes of football.
Mustafi’s contract with the Gunners expires this summer and he is expected to leave, but reports emerged on Monday that Arsenal and the player could come to an agreement to cancel his current deal, similar to the situation with Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
Kujtim Mustafi, his agent, denied these claims.
“I also read the rumours yesterday that Shkodran should terminate his contract,” he told Transfermarkt .
“To clarify: There are currently no discussions about a contract termination.”
Prior to that, however, Mustafi senior did say that his son would leave Arsenal one way or another by this summer.
“The fact is, Shkodran will leave the club in the summer at the latest,” he said.
With regards to where Mustafi will end up, his father previously stated that the pair will not rule anything out.
However, it is believed that his preference would be to return to his homeland and find a team in the Bundesliga in order to stay closer to his wife’s family, who live in Switzerland.
Football London previously reported that Arsenal had actually offered Mustafi a new deal in order to keep him beyond his current deal which runs out in the summer of 2021.
However, in the search of first team football, and the prospect of being nearer to family, he turned down the offer.
