Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick rules out Germany job
Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has ruled himself out of the running to become the next German national team head coach.
The German FA (DFB) will begin their hunt for a new head coach to replace Joachim Löw in the summer, following the head coach’s recent decision to step down after this year’s European Championships.
The frontrunners for the position were Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Bayern’s own head coach, according to numerous reports in Germany.
However, Klopp recently confirmed that he had no intention of stepping down from his role at Anfield and now Flick has also distanced himself from the job.
“I still have a contract until 2023 and want to win more titles here,” said the Bayern head coach at a press conference on Friday. “Speculation is out of the question.
“You all know me very well already. I’m interested in the here and now. I’m now looking after my team and the game against Werder Bremen. Speculation, as I said, is not an issue for me.”
Flick added: “We want to focus on the things that are in our own hands.”
“I think the unrest was worse in my early days at Bayern. We must not concern ourselves with things that are brought to us from the outside.”
Does this mean Nagelsmann won’t replace Flick at Bayern?
Bayern fans will undoubtedly be breathing a sigh of relief this afternoon upon reading that their head coach has no interest in leaving the club just one season after winning a historic treble. However, they probably won’t be the only ones.
Had Flick decided to leave Bayern for Germany this summer, the reported frontrunner to replace the head coach in Munich was RB Leipzig’s Julian Nagelsmann.
Flick deciding to stay put at Bayern now means that Nagelsmann will either be staying put at his Bundesliga side or may indeed decide to move to another European super club in the summer.
So far this season the young, German coach has been linked with taking over the top jobs at Real Madrid, Manchester United and most recently Barcelona.
