Chelsea transfer target admits approach from “one or two” clubs
Borussia Monchengladbach forward and Chelsea transfer target Jonas Hofmann has confirmed that “one or two” clubs have already asked about his availability in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Although the Foals have had a somewhat inconsistent season so far, Hofmann has been a constant source of goals and assists for Marco Rose’s side with seven goals and 11 assists in just 25 games.
Although the 28-year-old winger has rarely been seen as anything more than a Bundesliga level utility player, reports in England have suggested that new Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is a huge fan and believes the German talent would be the perfect tactical addition to his side next season.
However, Hofmann has a contract with Gladbach until the summer of 2023 and having signed for the club in 2016 for around £7 million, the Bundesliga side would probably want at least twice that amount in the summer if Chelsea were seriously interested in buying one of their most important players.
It remains to be seen whether reports of Tuchel’s interest in the player will translate over to a genuine effort to sign him, but in the meantime it seems as though Hofmann has already pondered over a potential move in the summer and perhaps already been informed of potential interest from England.
“I think it’s clear that other clubs will notice you if you perform well,” the Gladbach star told German newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten. “Therefore, it is possible that one or two have already asked.”
“Basically, I feel good at Borussia, I’ve always stressed that. For me, the absolute focus is on having a successful season with Borussia and dedicating myself fully to success. I put my personal situation below it.”
Will Chelsea sign Jonas Hofmann?
However impressive Hofmann has been for Gladbach this season, some Chelsea fans may continue to take any apparent interest shown in the German winger or indeed any forward with a pinch of salt until the future of most of their own wide players can be resolved.
The Premier League giants have spent a fortune on signing attacking midfielders, forwards and wingers that can all play on either wing for the last few seasons now and as such Tuchel currently has no less than six first team options for either position.
Therefore, it seems unlike that Chelseae will be making an offer for Hofmann anytime soon, unless they can offload the likes of Kai Havertz, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic or Hakim Ziyech.
