Haaland would suit Man Utd a lot better than Man City, says Bayern legend
Erling Haaland is the most talked-up youngster in the world right now, and reportedly every club is interested in the Borussia Dortmund striker, with Manchester United and Manchester City heavily linked.
It’s no surprise when you consider Haaland has netted 37 goals for club and country in 2020/21, with 14 of those coming since the turn of the year.
However, former Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder Dietmar Hamann doesn’t believe Haaland would suit Pep Guardiola’s style of play.
“I don’t think Haaland is a Manchester City player, I can’t see him joining Manchester City and I’m not sure if City will be interested because if you go back a few years, Pep Guardiola he got rid of all the centre forwards… so he never really played with a number nine, maybe he wants a false nine, maybe a midfielder playing up there.
“The way they play they like to pass the ball, they play around the box. I’m not sure whether it would suit Haaland and whether he would fit into the City team. At Manchester United, they have got so many quick players and they like to play on the counter attack, I think he would suit Manchester United a lot better than Manchester City. “
Could Haaland leave Dortmund this summer?
“There’s a big question mark whether Dortmund will qualify for the Champions League next season, I think there might be a situation in the summer, if they do miss out, which I think is pretty likely at the moment, that Dortmund might have to sell [Jadon] Sancho and Haaland” Hamann added.
Dortmund are currently fifth in the Bundesliga, and all four of the teams above them have lost just three times each this season; Dortmund have lost nine.
They have not been particularly impressive, and the potential lack of Champions League football next year has sharpened attention a potential exit for Haaland.
Another superstar who could be on the move this summer is PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, and when asked if Mbappe would suit Manchester City, Hamann replied: “I think better than Haaland.”
