Kimmich asks for calm to be restored at Bayern amid Flick speculation
Bayern star Joshua Kimmich admits things would be better at Bayern at the moment if there was more calm, as he comments on speculation surrounding the future of head coach Hansi Flick.
After taking over as Bayern boss midway through the 2019/20 campaign, Flick went on to guide the Bavarian side to victories in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup.
However, it is believed he has a strained relationship with current sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, particularly with regards to the club’s transfer dealings, while Flick has also subsequently been linked with the Germany job.
Kimmich doesn’t believe the uncertainty behind the scenes is impacting the team, but hopes things die down soon.
“Of course you notice what is being written and discussed outside,” he told TZ.
“At the end of the day it would, of course, be nicer given the success, if calm would return. But I think that it doesn’t burden us as a team.”
Flick to Germany?
The current head coach of the German national team is Joachim Low who has been in charge for 15 years, leading the nation to a World Cup triumph in 2014 in Brazil.
He has, however, announced that he will step down as boss at the conclusion of the European Championships this summer, which has catalysed speculation as to who will take over.
Flick, who reportedly has close ties at the DFB, was reportedly a front runner for the job, but he has ruled himself out of the running, insisting he intends to see out at least the remainder of his current deal with Bayern until 2023.
Kimmich is also not concerned about the rumours, adding to his previous comments:
“As far as I know, our coach still has a long contract. That’s why I’m very relaxed there.”
