Peter Bosz sacked as head coach of Leverkusen
Peter Bosz has been sacked as head coach of Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen following a run of just one win in eight games.
Leverkusen started the 2020/21 season in superb form and were viewed as outsider title contenders for a while after remaining unbeaten in their first 12 games, but the wheels came off in the middle of December when they suffered a crushing defeat at home to Bayern.
Despite taking an early lead against the defending champions, Leverkusen would go on to lose 2-1 thanks to a last-minute goal from Robert Lewandowski.
Since that defeat, they have won just three out of 13 in the Bundesliga, and were also recently knocked out of the Europa League over two legs by Swiss outfit Young Boys.
After that, Bosz’s job became untenable.
What have Leverkusen said?
Sporting director Rudi Voller said of the dismissal:
“In view of the footballing development in recent weeks, we have come to the conclusion that the separation from Peter Bosz can no longer be avoided.
Hannes Wolf will replace Peter Bosz as Werkself head coach until the end of the season, our former player and coach Peter Hermann will join as his assistant.
We would like to thank Peter Bosz for his time in Leverkusen and wish him all the best for the future. pic.twitter.com/Uipo1EbR5y

“The 0-3 defeat on Sunday at Hertha BSC was unfortunately telling, our team has lapsed into the same patterns again and again recently. We have not managed to stop the repetitive mistakes and return to the winning track.
“After a factual and very open analysis of the sporting situation, we therefore agreed to take this step despite the continuing high regard for Peter Bosz.”
Leverkusen have confirmed that Hannes Wolf has been put in place as caretaker head coach until the end of the season, with Peter Hermann as his assistant.
