Philipp Lahm questions progress of Tyler Adams at RB Leipzig
Former Bayern Munich defender Philipp Lahm has disclosed his thoughts on RB Leipzig’s highly-rated utility man Tyler Adams, saying he’s ‘not quite sure’ where the youngster’s career will take him.
The USA international has been a part of the Red Bull set up for the entirety of his career, starting out with New York Red Bulls before moving to Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in January 2019.

Adams is comfortable in multiple positions and has featured regularly on the right-wing, right-back and in a holding midfield role throughout his time with Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
His quality and versatility have often drawn praise from pundits, but it’s left Lahm wondering what the 22-year-old’s best role is.

“Yeah, a quality player without question. I don’t know exactly how his journey is going to go, and he’s not quite nailed down an exact position where he’s most comfortable and at his best.
“Where can he get experience? I think he’s a quality player to bring through the RB youth team,” the now-retired World Cup-winning captain revealed to Bundesliga.com.
“He’s very dynamic, he’s got a good footballing brain, but I’m not quite sure exactly where he fits in yet and where his journey will lead him.
“What exactly are his strengths, and where can he pick up experience in a certain position? That will be important later down the line for his career.”
What next for Adams?
Leipzig have developed a reputation for developing some of the best young talents in football over recent seasons as they continue to hoover up some of the most promising prospects across the continent.
Therefore, the Red Bull Arena is probably the best place for Adam’s to be right now, but the North American ace needs to nail down a preferred position sooner rather than later.
Several up-and-coming stars have failed to reach their potential down the years after falling victim to their own versatility, becoming a jack of all trades while failing to master any particular role and, at 22, the time where Adams has to make a choice over his long-term ambition is fast approaching.
