Chelsea and Manchester City transfer target Mahmoud Dahoud is expected to sign a new contract extension with Borussia Dortmund in the coming weeks.

Dahoud was something of a forgotten talent at the Bundesliga club under previous full-time head coach Lucien Favre but regained his form under caretaker head coach Eden Terzic in the second half of last season.

As such, the German giants are reportedly keen on extending Dahoud’s deal beyond the current expiry date of 2022.

According to German magazine Kicker, Dahoud and the club are just ironing over the finer details of his new contract and are expected to conclude negotiations shortly.

Not only could that prove to be a confidence boost to the player ahead of a season under new head coach Marco Rose, but it could also put to bed constant speculation linking the player with a move to England.

In recent months the Daily Mail have suggested that Dahoud’s talents have attracted the interest of both Chelsea and Man City, in addition to Premier League rivals Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

At his best, Dahoud is a technically gifted box-to-box midfielder that can play as a more advanced or deep-lying playmaker in certain formations.

As such, the German international has attracted interest from a number of clubs despite struggling to get game time at Dortmund in recent seasons.

Could Haaland leave Dortmund this summer?

Another Dortmund talent that has attracted interest from England is Erling Haaland, who is also an apparent transfer target for Chelsea and Man City.

However, quite like Dahoud, it seems unlikely that Haaland would leave Dortmund anytime soon due to a few key factors.

For a start, the Norwegian striker is already tied down to a long-term contract, which means the club will have no interest in selling him unless they’re forced to do so.

Secondly, following the imminent sale of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United, it’s unlikely that Dortmund will feel any economic pressure to make further sales in 2021.
