Why Rudiger should leave Chelsea for Bayern
Chelsea may need to fight tooth and nail to keep Antonio Rudiger at the club next season.
According to a new report in Sport-Bild, Bayern Munich are prepared to offer the central defender a huge contract to make a return to Germany instead of staying in London.
Rudiger has been an integral part of Thomas Tuchel’s team since the manager took on the job in January, helping Chelsea to a top four finish and a Champions League title.
However the Germany international’s contract at Chelsea is set to expire at the end of the season and he may be tempted to try something new in the summer.
He won’t be looking over his back
One of the main reasons why Rudiger hasn’t signed a new deal and may be considering the prospect of a move to Bayern is the simple fact that he doesn’t feel secure at Chelsea.
Not only do the club have a number of exciting, young central defenders like Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah, but they’re also notoriously efficient in the transfer window.
It remains to be seen whether the club will be able to entice Jules Kounde from Sevilla to London in January or next summer, but such a move would likely have a huge impact on how comfortable Rudiger is at the club.
As such, the Germany international may be seeking out a club that can guarantee him a starring role for years to come. And, unlike Chelsea, Bayern rarely pride themselves on their huge turnover of players each year.
Bayern offer more stability
Another aspect of life at Chelsea which may concern Rudiger is the number of managers they tend to devour on an annual basis.
While Tuchel is riding high at the moment, the German manager may find himself out of work in the summer if his team don’t seriously challenge for the Premier League and Champions League this season - or even win it.
In contrast, new Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann has signed up to a five-year deal at the club and it’s more than likely that he’ll see that contract through, unless something seriously goes wrong in Munich.
That, perhaps more than immediate success this season, may be far more enticing to a player like Rudiger going forward.
