Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann has rejected claims that star striker Robert Lewandowski wants to leave the club this summer but has admitted that signing the striker up to a new deal won’t be as easy ‘as you would imagine’.

The Poland international has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona and Manchester United in recent weeks.

FootballTransfers recently revealed that the Catalan giants had made Lewandowski’s their no.1 transfer target for the summer transfer window after giving up on Borussia Dortmund star forward Erling Haaland.

Due to the player’s contract expiring in 2023, Bayern would promptly consider selling the striker before next season if they were unable to get Lewandowski to sign a new contract extension for fear of losing him for free 12 months later.

As such, a lot currently rests on the player’s current mood and whether Bayern can convince him to sign a new contract in the coming months.

’It’s not as easy as you would imagine’

However, when asked about the future of one of his key players, Nagelsmann played down any serious concerns about Lewandowski looking for a new challenge in England or Spain in the near future.

"It's not like no one is talking to him. He is outstanding - and of course we want to keep him. But it's not as easy as you imagine,” said Nagelsmann after his team’s 4-0 victory over Union Berlin on Saturday.

“You have to go a few rounds. But I also don't have the feeling that he is not comfortable here."

The Bayern head coach added: "In the end, we all want the players concerned to stay. And then there will be talks at some point.

“The financial security of the aforementioned players is such that they can also go into the matter quite relaxed, because now their contract doesn't expire next week and they haven't only earned €1500."
