'I don't think he wants to leave' - Bayern boss dismisses Barca interest in Lewandowski
Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has rubbished claims that Robert Lewandowski wants to leave the club for Barcelona.
Speculation has mounted over the Poland international’s future in Bavaria, following a lack of progress in discussions over a new contract with Bayern.
As things stand, Lewandowski’s contract at the club will enter its final year in June, where the club may be forced to either cash in on the player or risk losing him for free 12 months later.
Although Lewandowski hasn’t commented on his future yet, his recent performances for the club have suggested that he may not be entirely happy with his standing at Bayern at this moment in time.
However, when asked about his star striker’s state of mind, Nagelsmann was convinced that Lewandowski remains fully committed to Bayern and would sign a new deal in due time.
’I never get the impressions that he wants to leave’
"I never get the impression in the conversations that he wants to leave,” said Nagelsmann in a press conference on Friday. “He talks a lot about tactics and always gives the impression that he is interested.
“But it's also a bit normal to think about your future, especially when you've been at the club for so long.
“In the conversations, he always seems to me as if he would like to stay. Of course, I would like him to stay in my team and hopefully the near future will show everything else."
Of course, Nagelsmann and Bayern may have some convincing to do if they are to keep Lewandowski at the club, following a surprise defeat in the Champions League to Villarreal.
If the club can’t prove that they remain at the top tier of European football then the striker could look elsewhere in the summer.
