Robert Lewandowski: Barcelona make new €40m bid
Barcelona have tabled a new and improved €40 million offer for Robert Lewandowski, plus add-ons.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who says that Lewandowski has been informed of the offer and is prepared to wait and be patient for the deal to hopefully be completed.
The Blaugrana are upping their offer, having had a €32m bid rejected by Bayern Munich last month.
Barcelona’s new offer is €40m guaranteed, plus add-ons.
Barcelona have made Lewandowski their number one target for the summer transfer window and they have been in talks to sign the former Borussia Dortmund star since March.
Lewandowski, whose contract at Bayern expires in 2023, is keen to make the move to Camp Nou as he would like one final challenge at a bit club before the end of his career.
Indeed, Lewandowski has made a number of recent public declarations stating that he sees his time at Bayern as over and demanding for the club to let him leave.
This has led to an ugly war of words developing between Lewandowski and Bayern officials, although the two parties have reportedly agreed to a ceasefire and will no longer argue over the issue in public.
Bayern had been desperate to keep Lewandowski next season but have begun looking around for possible replacements given the striker’s determination to leave.
Sadio Mane has arrived from Liverpool, although his transfer is unconnected to Lewandowski.
Will Bayern accept Barcelona offer?
It has been widely reported that Bayern would accept a bid in the region of €50m for Lewandowski, so Barcelona are now close to reaching that mark.
Whether Barcelona can find the funds to pay what they are offering has been the big issue this summer.
The Blaugrana are in a well-publicised financial crisis and are €1.3 billion in debt.
Indeed, they haven’t been able to announce the free transfer signings Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen yet due to their financial issues.
However, Barcelona have reportedly secured €500-700m in funds after an extraordinary meeting of Socios (club members) a fortnight ago.
This was done by agreeing to sell 49% of its retail arm, Barca Licensing and Merchandising (BLM), and up to 25% of its future La Liga TV revenues.
