Bayern deal Man Utd blow for potential De Jong alternative

Ryan Gravenberch is believed to be unhappy at Bayern Munich just a few months into his career at the club, after seeing his game time limited since joining the Bavarian side.
The Dutch youngster joined the German champions this summer from Ajax, with the Amsterdam side open to selling as he wasn’t willing to extend his contract at the club.
Other clubs have been taking notice of the situation, with a view to making a future move if the situation doesn’t change any time soon.

Manchester United are reportedly one of those clubs, viewing him as an alternative for Frenkie de Jong, and they have been monitoring Gravenberch’s status, but may have suffered a blow in their hopes of signing him.

Bayern’s Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic has spoken about the player’s future and is confident of seeing him succeed over the course of his time at the club.
"Ryan is an outstanding player. We know that we'll have a lot of joy with him. There are phases where you play a bit less. But everyone can look forward to him," Salihamidzic said.

Manchester United have tracked Gravenberch’s progress for a long time – with interest dating all the way back to 2020, but they’ve never made a proper move for the player’s transfer.
They were even interested in a move in the summer: “Manchester United are a very big club, but I had a very good feeling with Bayern Munich and I had given my word,” Gravenberch said to De Telegraaf back in June.

Gravenberch also has a strong relationship with current Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag – it was him that gave the youngster his senior professional debut at Ajax.
At the time of his senior debut in 2018, he became the youngest Ajax debutant of all time at 16 years and 130 days old, overtaking Clarence Seedorf’s record by 80 days – a strong show of faith by the manager.
Gravenberch will be hoping to see his fortunes at Bayern Munich change soon as he hopes to make the Netherlands’ final World Cup squad and achieve his potential in the game.
