Bayern Munich and Julian Nagelsmann will part ways with immediate effect according to Bild, with Thomas Tuchel tagged as the top candidate to replace him.

Nagelsmann has been at Bayern since 2021, when he defected from RB Leipzig, and he led the Bavarians to their 10th consecutive Bundesliga title last season.

But they find themselves a point behind Borussia Dortmund with nine games left of the current campaign, although they have won through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where they will meet Manchester City.

But the Bundesliga is Bayern's bread and butter, and they have been less than convincing this season, despite boasting the best squad and the biggest budget. And the Bayern top brass have reportedly seen enough.

Bayern and Nagelsmann 'separating'

"According to BILD information, FC Bayern is separating from coach Julian Nagelsmann (35) with immediate effect," write Christian Falk and Tobias Altschaffl. "Thomas Tuchel (49) is the favourite to succeed him. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano first reported on the rumours.

Romano had earlier tweeted, saying: "EXCLUSIVE: FC Bayern are seriously considering to sack Julian Nagelsmann. Decision being discussed internally, the club could fire him soon. Understand Thomas Tuchel leading candidate to potentially take FC Bayern job."

Bayern face Dortmund in Der Klassiker on 1 April and the club's senior management are apparently unwilling to give Nagelsmann the chance to prove he can win that game and, ultimately, and 11th consecutive Bundesliga title for the club.

Nagelsmann was the youngest head coach in German top-flight history when he took the Hoffenheim job at the age of 28, and he is likely to remain in high demand even if what Romano and Bild say turns out to be true.

Tuchel has been out of work since September, when he was sacked by new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly and replaced by Graham Potter.
