Five Bundesliga players who could move in January
The January transfer window is almost upon us and every Bundesliga team is beginning to prepare their business for one of the busiest months of the year in the football world.
The German top flight doesn’t possess the financial backing of the Premier League, for example, which means that any arrivals will likely only happen if departures precede them.
As a result, FootballTransfers runs through five Bundesliga players who could move clubs in the January window.
Timo Werner (RB Leipzig)
Reports from Germany have suggested that former Chelsea forward Timo Werner has been told to find a new club in January by RB Leipzig.
The 27-year-old returned to Leipzig last summer, but has found himself down the pecking order this campaign following the arrivals of Lois Openda, Benjamin Sesko and Xavi Simons (loan).
This lack of minutes have led to Leipzig informing him to search for a new team to play for in 2024. Manchester United have been linked, although a deal seems unlikely, and the Germany international will leave Leipzig if a suitable offer is tabled in January.
Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)
Joshua Kimmich’s future at Bayern Munich is uncharacteristically uncertain and the German midfielder could potentially leave the club in 2024.
Barcelona and Manchester City are both interested and FootballTransfers understand the latter are now pushing to make a deal happen.
Bayern may refuse to sell Kimmich in January, amid a Bundesliga title fight and their hopes of a deep run in the Champions League, but he certainly could leave next year as transfer talk begins to heat up.
Serhou Guirassy (Stuttgart)
Serhou Guirassy has been one of the most prolific strikers in world football this campaign and he sits fourth on the European Golden Shoe list, with 16 goals in 12 Bundesliga games.
As a result, it comes as little surprise that clubs are queuing up to sign the Stuttgart forward during the January transfer window.
Man Utd have been touted as a potential destination, while Fulham, West Ham and Borussia Dortmund are among the other clubs to have also expressed their desire to land the Guinea international.
Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund)
Youssoufa Moukoko was tipped as the next big thing a few years ago, but his career has stalled at Borussia Dortmund following their summer transfer business.
Niclas Fullkrug arrived from Werder Bremen for €15.5m and he has become the club’s first-choice number nine, leaving Moukoko to pick up just 142 league minutes and zero starts.
FC Koln have expressed their desire to sign Moukoko on loan, as per reports in Germany, and a six-month move could help reinvigorate his career.
Nico Elvedi (Borussia Monchengladbach)
According to TEAMTalk, Chelsea are interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi, who has a €10m release clause included in his current contract.

The Swiss international typically plays as a centre-back and therefore could become Chelsea’s long-term Thiago Silva replacement, while he could replace Trevoh Chalobah in the short-term.
The Englishman is set to leave Stamford Bridge in January amid heavy interest from Bayern.
