Jadon Sancho can pay off his Borussia Dortmund loan fee in one swoop, effectively ensuring the Bundesliga club get him for free from Manchester United.

The Red Devils exiled Sancho after a public spat with manager Erik ten Hag just a month into the season.

After a protracted transfer saga, he was ultimately loaned back to Dortmund during the January transfer window for a fee of €4 million.

It has taken Sancho some time to rediscover his form, but he seems to be finding it once again after a couple of months with the Bundesliga club. His first goal arrived at the weekend in a clash against Werder Bremen.

Sancho's two chances to justify loan

If he can replicate such form on Wednesday against PSV in the Champions League, he could pay his loan fee off twice over for Edin Terzic’s club. Dortmund’s tie against the Eredivisie side is balanced at 1-1 ahead of the second leg in Germany.

For the winners, a prize fund of €10.6m awaits – more than enough to pay off Sancho’s loan fee if BVB progress.

This is the match that Dortmund have paid the England international to produce in. If he is decisive in this game, bringing him back on loan must be considered unequivocally a good move.

Of course, there is also the issue of qualifying for next season’s Champions League to consider if Terzic’s side go out.

Germany’s top four teams will qualify for the 2024/25 competition, with the possibility that a fifth is involved. As things stand, Dortmund are on the brink. They lie fourth in the Bundesliga, just one point clear of RB Leipzig. It is promising to be a close-run race.

Being the difference in this battle offers Sancho another opportunity to pay off his loan fee while also increasing the chances of Dortmund keeping him for next season – something that the Man Utd player reportedly craves.
