Alphonso Davies has officially signed a new long-term contract at Bayern Munich to end speculation of a Bosman move this summer.

The Canada international was set to be out of contract at the end of June and he was been heavily tipped to leave Bavaria in order to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Manchester United were also touted as potential suitors for Davies, although their interest in the 24-year-old died down amid their pursuit of Patrick Dorgu - who moved to Old Trafford for an initial €30 million during the final few days of the January window.

Furthermore, Davies has now committed his future to Bayern by signing a new long-term deal that runs until the summer of 2030.

Upon news of his new contract, Davies told the Bayern Munich club website: "I am very happy to have extended my contract at this great club. I came to FC Bayern when I was 18 and just wanted to learn as much as possible every day to become one of the best in my position.

"Now I'm looking forward to another five years together. I’ve already achieved a lot here, but there’s more to come."

Alphonso Davies extends Bayern Munich contract

Davies joined Bayern from MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps for €14m back in January 2019 and he has established himself as one of the world’s best left-backs during his time at the Allianz Arena, despite arriving as a winger.

The Canada star has made 220 appearances in all competitions for Bayern, scoring 12 goals and winning 13 trophies, including the Champions League back in 2020.

As a result of Davies’ decision to extend his stay at Bayern, Real Madrid will be forced to identify a new priority left-back target amid their desire to replace Ferland Mendy.

Los Blancos are also pushing to land Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold on a Bosman deal when his contract at Anfield expires this summer.
