Koeman: I’ve Barcelona January transfer targets in mind

Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman has reiterated that he has a ready-made transfer shortlist that he wants to use in January.
The Catalan side are in the midst of a frustrating season, Koeman’s first since taking the reins of the club.
Barca are a relatively lowly fifth in the Primera Division. They are 10 points off the pace of league leaders Atletico Madrid, who have played one game fewer.
Barcelona were unable to conduct the transfer campaign they wish in the summer. They notably missed out on primary target Memphis Depay, who remains a potential target for the Camp Nou side. Manchester City centre-back Eric Garcia is another target.
Koeman, meanwhile, admits that he has outlined the players he believes can improve his ailing side.
“I have made a list of possible weaknesses and players that I think it would be interesting to bring in,” Koeman explained to the media ahead of the midweek encounter with Athletic Club.
“Any coach always looks to the month of January as a time when the squad can be improved. I am no different, but it depends on the club.”

Barcelona’s transfer campaign is being complicated by the presidential elections, which will take place on January 24. Only once the dust has settled from that will they be able to make any headway with regards improving their squad.
The incoming president’s priority, however, will be keeping six-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi. The Argentine is out of contract at the end of the season and is presently able to discuss terms with other clubs with a view to a free transfer.
Furthermore, Barcelona are seeking to slash their wage bill, which is set to complicate making additions to their ranks even further.
Unsurprisingly, then, Koeman has spoken about the January transfer window with an air of pessimism.
