Todibo spent the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan at Nice – making 17 appearances - and the Ligue 1 club have now exercised their option to make the move permanent.

How much did Barcelona sell Todibo for?

Barcelona issued a statement confirming the deal, which read: "OGC Nice has reported to FC Barcelona that it shall exercise its right to purchase Jean-Clair Todibo, who has been playing on loan to the French club since the end of the 20/21 season.

"The operation is valued at €8.5m, plus a further €7m in variables. The Catalan club withholds a percentage on any future sale of the player.

"FC Barcelona wishes to publicly state its gratitude to Jean-Clair Todibo for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the very best of success in the future."

Nice also published an official statement, which read: "OGC Nice and FC Barcelona have agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Jean-Clair Todibo! He said it right from the start: 'In my mind, I will be at OGC Nice next season. And the one after that as well!'

Todibo a Barcelona flop

Todibo was labelled as one of Europe’s most exciting young defenders when he signed for Barcelona from Toulouse in January 2019.

However, he failed to make the grade at Camp Nou, making just four appearances in a year before being loaned to Schalke with an option to buy.

But the German club decided against buying him permanently, leading to Todibo being sent away again to Benfica on a two-year loan.

The centre back again failed to break into the Benfica team – appearing just twice – and they cut short the loan after just six months.

This led to a third loan move in just 12 months at Nice, where he has finally begun to rebuild his career.
