Ferran Torres believes Manchester City are right to be targeting players like Antoine Griezmann.

Even though Man City manager Pep Guardiola has recently said that the club will not be bringing in any expensive acquisitions in the centre-forward position this summer, they continue to be linked to the likes of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

Over the last week or so Griezmann's name has popped up too, but again that is deemed as an unlikely purchase at the moment.

The World Cup winner has found things tough at Barcelona since his big money move from Atletico Madrid, having failed to score more than 13 league goals in each of his two campaigns at Camp Nou so far.

With the Blaugrana in a terrible state financially they would be open to offers for Griezmann.

Torres endorsed any City bid for Griezmann when asked.

“We know the magnitude that Griezmann has, the type of player he is," the Spaniard said.

"Obviously he is at Barca, he has a contract at Barca and we'll see what can happen.

"City are one of the best teams in the world and they are willing to have the best players to be able to win it all. If he comes, fine and if not, we are going to continue working."

Torres' own future

Valencia are no stranger to financial problems of their own which is why Torres was allowed to leave for a fairly nominal fee of £20 million a year ago.

However, he has again stated his intention to return to the Mestalla as a player in the future.

"I hope that Valencia can reverse the situation, I am a Valencian player and I always will be and I do not like to see Valencia in the situation that has happened this year and I hope everything returns to normal as soon as possible," he added, in reference to the financial issues off the pitch and the performances on it.

"I have always said it and I will continue to say it, Valencia is my home, where I grew up, that it has given me everything and why not come back in the future."

Jose Bordalas is Valencia's new coach but Torres confessed he has not spoken to his former colleagues about the new boss of Los Che.

“During the year I have spoken with some colleagues from last year. I have not been able to speak with them after the arrival of the new coach but I'm sure everything will be fine," he predicted.
