Varane agrees personal terms with Man Utd

Raphael Varane has agreed personal terms with Manchester United, but the English giants still need to negotiate a transfer fee with Real Madrid.

That is according to ABC Sports, which claims that Varane has accepted an offer worth €12 million a year until 2026, in order to move to Old Trafford.

Varane has rejected a new four-year contract offer from Real Madrid where his current deal expires in 2022.

Having already lost Varane’s long-term centre-back partner Sergio Ramos to PSG on a Bosman transfer, the Blancos are desperate to extend the Frenchman’s deal that expires in 2022.

Varane has been offered an extension until 2024, with the option of a further year, but would like a new challenge after a decade in the Spanish capital.

Will Varane join Man Utd?

The World Cup winner is top on the shortlist of Manchester United, who will sign an elite centre-back this summer to partner Harry Maguire.

Having agreed personal terms, Man United now need to negotiate a transfer fee with Real Madrid.

ABC says that Man Utd are prepared to pay €45m for the 28-year-old, but Madrid are demanding €60m.

Kounde to replace Varane at Real Madrid?

Should Varane leave then, according to Mundo Deportivo and AS, they would then use these funds to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde,.

Kounde has developed into one of the most admired centre backs in Europe since joining Sevilla from Bordeaux two years ago.

Sevilla have made it clear that Kounde will not leave unless his €80m release clause is met, and there is also interest from a number of other top clubs in the 22-year-old.

FootballTransfers values Kounde at €72m, which makes him the highest valued defender in La Liga. Varane is second, valued at €66.5m.

As for Man Utd, they continue their impressive start to the summer transfer market.

This week, they reached an agreement to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for €85m (£73m).

The Old Trafford side have been courting Sancho for at least 18 months now, but were unwilling to match Dortmund’s demands for the England international last summer.
